Standard Chartered Bank visited Lewisham College to deliver an apprenticeships workshop to Business and Access to Finance learners, discuss the Standard Chartered Apprenticeship Programmes and provide an overview of opportunities for future apprentices.

During the event, learners heard about the different career opportunities available in the financial sector and learnt about two apprenticeship programmes they could apply for which included the chance to work in Financial Markets on a three-year Financial Services Professional apprenticeship programme or to work in Client Coverage on a two-year Investment Operations Specialist apprenticeship programme.

The learners also had a chance to hear about the experience of current apprentices and to find out more about the roles, salaries, progression opportunities and the application process.

Ellie Brignell, Early Careers Specialist at Standard Chartered Bank said: “It was a pleasure to present our banking and finance apprenticeship programmes to the business learners at Lewisham College. The learners had enquiring minds and asked lots of interesting questions about the programmes – we hope that many of the young people apply, and we have representation from Lewisham College on our programmes in the future.

“It is worth noting that our opportunities are not just open to those who have studied finance or business. We are keen to hear from any young person who is interested in working in a finance environment.”

Abdulmalik Jinadu, L3 Business and Access to Finance said, “My career goal is to become a trader and work in the stock market, so the presentation today was delivered at a perfect timing for me.

“I was initially planning to study at University after I finished my course at Lewisham College; however, after feeling inspired from today’s session I will also consider apprenticeship opportunities. Going down the route of apprenticeships will not only provide me with job security, but I would also get the opportunity to earn while I learn.”

Gerard Garvey, Executive Principal at Lewisham College, said: "We are pleased to have welcomed representatives from the Standard Chartered Bank to present their apprenticeship opportunities to our Business and Finance learners.

“At Lewisham College, we are committed to supporting all our learners in finding the best pathway for them. This type of workshop allows them to discover opportunities in reputable organisations in the sector they are interested in building their career. It is an invaluable experience which helps our learners make an informed decision for their next steps in education or employment."

The Access to Higher Education Diploma in Business Studies is a Level 3 qualification which prepares people without traditional qualifications for study at university. Find out more at lewisham.ac.uk/our-courses/access-to-he
