Lewisham College’s Supported Learning learners captivated audiences with a special performance of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, showcasing their creativity, confidence and performing arts talent.
The production was the result of weeks of hard work and collaboration, with learners taking an active role in bringing the classic story to life. Through acting, movement and performance, they demonstrated their growing skills while delivering an engaging interpretation of one of Shakespeare’s most celebrated plays.
The performance provided learners on the Skills for Performing Arts programme with an opportunity to express themselves creatively, build confidence and develop valuable communication and teamwork skills. In front of an enthusiastic audience of staff, family members and fellow learners, the cast embraced the challenge of performing a well-known literary work and delivered a memorable showcase of their achievements.
The event highlighted the important role that creative arts experiences play in supporting personal development. For many learners, taking part in the production offered the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, work collaboratively towards a shared goal and celebrate their individual strengths.
