Lewisham College was a proud partner of People’s Day 2022, one of the biggest community events in the Lewisham calendar and Southeast London’s oldest free festival.

The festival saw thousands of people attend to enjoy live music, entertainment, and food and drink. Stalls from organisations around the borough were present to provide information on local services and businesses. People’s Day also forms part of the London Borough of Culture celebrations, part of the Mayor of London’s plans to support the arts in the capital and shine a light on local communities within the borough.

As a partner of this year's event, Lewisham College attended the festival, providing stalls in two locations to offer guidance and advice for potential applicants and information on courses available for the local community. There was also an opportunity for the public to get involved and get a sense of what it would be like to learn at Lewisham College with taster sessions in maths, health and social care, and sport.

Gerard Garvey, Principal at Lewisham College, said: “We are really pleased to have been a partner for the People’s Day this year. We pride ourselves on our links to the local community and festivals like People’s Day provide a fantastic way to engage with people in Lewisham and inform on what we offer as an education provider to help them achieve their career goals.”

Jayne Morgan, Deputy Principal at Lewisham College, added: “It was fantastic attending this year's People’s Day and I greatly enjoyed talking to locals about our courses and seeing people engage with our staff delivering the taster sessions and demonstrations. Working with the community is at the heart of what we do at Lewisham College and connecting with Lewisham people is key in our mission to inspire and educate.”
