The Additional Learning Support team at Lewisham College hosted the Additional Learning Support (ALS) Awards to celebrate the effort, commitment and achievements of learners who receive extra support at College.

Learners, along with their families and friends were present and excited to be recognised, with one learner, Andre Oppong, delivering a speech upon the collection of his certificate. The shortlisting for the awards was determined by staff nominations for learners who they thought put in the extra effort and took responsibility for doing their best in their course.

With a red carpet and a glamorous Hollywood-style setting, learners from both the Lewisham Way and Deptford Bridge campuses were presented with certificates and gift cards as a reward for their achievements. The group of winners consisted of:

  • Andre Oppong
  • Carlos Savarimuthu
  • Daniel Kehinde
  • Ezzil De Roche
  • Hang Nguyen
  • Harry Rovira
  • Lucy Palmer-Sands
  • Michelle Ansah
  • Mohamed Jeng
  • Molly Rimini
  • Nicole Peek
  • Rojean Hammond
  • Ryan Baillie
  • Ryan Williams
  • Ted O’Toole
  • Tia-Marie Moore
  • Vanessa Wallace

To wrap up the event, learners enjoyed a celebratory lunch spread and took the opportunity to capture images in front of the photo backdrop with friends and family.

Nicole Peek, Health and Social Care student, said: I feel a huge sense of pride and accomplishment as I’ve never won an award before. During the ceremony, I received a certificate for commitment, achievement, and effort. It feels good to be recognised for the hard work that I put into my studies every day It feels good to be recognised for the hard work that I put into my studies every day.

“I am thankful for all the ALS staff that helped me to achieve this award. I am sure it will continue to help me to progress in the future as I will be able to add it to my CV to strengthen my chances for future opportunities.”
