Deptford First Fundraiser Students Singing

Lewisham College recently hosted a community networking event for local charity Deptford First. The evening brought together local businesses, community groups, and College staff for a vibrant evening of connection and conversation.

Deptford First is a local charity that seeks to support local initiatives and assist individuals who have fallen through the gaps in what the state and other organisations can provide. They also aim to bring together the people and organisations who support our community via networking and information sharing.

The event was held in the College’s Phoenix Restaurant, where guests were greeted on arrival with a range of carefully crafted canapés and multiple drink options.

Adding delight to the evening, learners from Lewisham College treated attendees to live performances. An upbeat vocal performance from the choir filled the restaurant before a dynamic Afrobeat dance routine impressed those in attendance. The performances not only entertained but also highlighted the talent nurtured through our creative curriculum.

Deptford First Chair and MP for Lewisham North, Vicky Foxcroft, then addressed the room with an impassionate speech: “Deptford First do really important work, we raise money, and we work with different community groups. What is important about this evening is bringing everyone together, its networking together, its sharing experiences and working together to see how we can improve things for our local community. We need to remind ourselves of the amazing talent that we (Lewisham) have got and that we are such a creative constituency.”

The success of the event builds on other recent business and networking events, which have included the launch of the ‘Back Lewisham London Talent’ Campaign, the Springboard Hospitality takeover, our 50 Plus Jobs Fair and the South East London Chamber of Commerce Business Breakfast.
