Lewisham College proudly presented the Art and Design Learners’ End of Year Show, a vibrant exhibition that explored thought-provoking themes, including Growth and Decay, Fear, Mythology, the Male Gaze, and Mania.
This diverse showcase highlighted the creativity and skill of our learners as they individually developed unique projects across various mediums.
From family portraits and detailed illustrations to dressmaking, animation, and sculpture, the exhibition featured an impressive range of artistic expressions. Learners also experimented with bleach, acrylic paint, 3D art, storytelling and game design, demonstrating their versatility and innovation.
Open to both learners and staff, the exhibition created a dynamic space where each artist was on hand to share the inspirations behind their pieces and discuss their creative processes. Visitors had the opportunity to engage directly with the artists, gaining deeper insight into the meaning and motivation driving each work.
Amrit Virdi, studying Level 3 Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication, created a life-size embroidered skeleton with 3D detachable organs to make the piece interactive. She said: “My theme explores growth and decay related to human anatomy. I made it look like one side of the body is healthy and growing while the other side is decaying and rotting. My inspiration came from the work of the anatomist Vesalius and Mathew Cox, a famous embroiderer who uses x-rays and MRI scans, and stitches over half of it shows a much happier / healthy side. I took inspiration from his methods and ideas and changed it so it could in with the theme of growth and decay."
The End of Year Show not only celebrated the talent within Lewisham College’s Art and Design department but also fostered a community of learning and artistic dialogue. It was a fitting culmination of a year of hard work, creativity, and exploration.
