Learners from Lewisham College recently took part in a specialist painting and decorating workshop delivered in partnership with The Bell Group and PPG's Technical Department (Johnstone's and Leyland Paints), giving them valuable insight into current industry techniques and best practice.
Organised through The Bell Group's Bell Training Academy, the session provided learners with the opportunity to learn directly from experienced industry professionals while developing practical skills that reflect the latest standards and innovations within the sector.
The workshop combined theory with hands-on learning. During the morning session, learners participated in a "Tool Talk" and explored one of PPG's latest products, testing its performance using a range of roller sleeves. They then moved on to water-based trim technologies before putting their newly acquired skills into practice in a cutting-in challenge.
To support continued learning beyond the classroom, PPG also provided materials for learners to use independently, helping them further develop their techniques and confidence.
Employer-led opportunities such as this play an important role in helping students connect their studies with real workplace practices. By working closely with industry partners, Lewisham College ensures learners gain relevant experience, develop technical knowledge and build the confidence needed for successful careers in the construction sector.
