Lewisham College welcomed MPs, the Mayor of Lewisham, community leaders, and key employer partners to its Stakeholder Dinner, marking the official launch of the College’s Strategy to 2030.

The strategy sets out ambitious plans to strengthen Lewisham College’s role as the borough’s anchor institution for skills, opportunity, and social mobility. Through seven strategic objectives, it aims to enhance employer collaboration, support local enterprise, and develop a workforce equipped for the future.

The strategy cements Lewisham College’s purpose to ensure the best life chances for every student it supports, and through its seven strategic objectives, outlines its ambitions to enhance employer collaboration, support local enterprise, and develop a workforce for the future.

It also commits to deepening partnerships with local employers and community organisations to ensure courses align with Lewisham’s economic needs.

As part of the evening, the College reaffirmed the Back Lewisham London Talent campaign, which launched in April in partnership with Lewisham Council. The campaign asks local employers to pledge their support to education and skills development for adults and young people in the borough by offering work placements, mentoring learners, and co-designing curriculum.

Speaking at the event, Jamie Stevenson, Principal of Lewisham College, said: “Our Strategy Towards 2030 is a bold and inclusive roadmap that is rooted in our mission to ensure the best life chances for every student we support. The plan is designed to address the real challenges and opportunities facing Lewisham and London, and its objectives are not just targets, but our commitments to our students, our partners, and to the future of our borough.

“I am so pleased to see such a committed and ambitious group of partners join us for the launch, who share our ambitious vision for a stronger, fairer, and more prosperous Lewisham, London and beyond. With support and collaboration from employers, leaders and community organisations, our Strategy to 2030 will help us to deliver high-quality, inclusive education that meets the needs of the Lewisham community and creates a skilled workforce for the jobs of today and the future.”

Students played a central role in the Stakeholder Dinner, preparing and serving a three-course menu and providing entertainment, showcasing the talent and professionalism nurtured at Lewisham College.

Janet Daby, MP for Lewisham East, said: “It was a real privilege to be invited to this event. Lewisham College is doing fantastic things both this evening and in the community. Everyone here tonight is here to build links and community in Lewisham which we all thrive on.”

Brenda Dacres, the Mayor of Lewisham, added: “Tonight has been a really exciting night launching Lewisham College’s Strategy to 2030, and the Back Lewisham London Talent campaign. Young people know that when they attend Lewisham College they can learn, be inspired and achieve their dreams. Hospitality students have achieved that tonight and shown us just how talented they are.”
