The Extended Diploma makes up the second year of the National Foundation Diploma in IT. If you have completed your L3 Diploma are keen and have an interest in pursuing a career in Software Development Programming Website Development Social Media Games Design or Cyber Security - or you have a passion for IT and computing then why not make the next step and join us on the Extended Diploma in Information Technology. This exciting and innovative course will help you to develop a range of modern computing and IT skills you need - From developing systems to manage information in business creating innovative websites programs and mobile apps to producing your very own computer games. This course enables you to develop the skills and experience needed to start the career of your dreams. You will work with a range of industry standard programs and development languages to achieve your goals including; Visual Basic HTML CSS JavaScript C/C++ and Java and platforms such as Android Studio for App development Microsoft Visual Studios for programming and many more we also have fantastic links with industry partners including Cisco Systems and local employers. You will develop practical skills and a theoretical understanding of the world of IT.     Entry Requirements

    • GCSEs A*-C / or Grade 9-4 (in 2017 GCSEs) One of the above must be in English Language or maths. Or - Relevant Level 3 Diploma qualification with Merit or above Or - Relevant industry experience to Level 3 or above If you are accepted onto this course without a Grade 4 (that's the old Grade C) or above in Maths and/or English you will be given the opportunity to develop your skills in these subjects. This will be a compulsory part of your timetable.

    Assessment Method

    You will be assessed via both internally set projects and external examinations and you will be awarded a PASS MERIT or DISTICTION based on the results of these assessments. You will also be assessed in a variety of ways - presentations role plays and time-limited exercises.

    Aims of the course

    This qualification is designed to support learners who want a strong core study of computer science with a focus on Software Development Programming Website Development Social Media Games Design or Cyber Security to enable progression to roles in the computing industry apprenticeship or progression to higher education.

    Progression Opportunities

    Upon successful completion of the second year of this course you will be able to progress to a specialised university degree course or to an Information Technology apprenticeship or job. Examples of possible degree paths are: - BSc (Hons) in Information Management for Business - FdSC in Business Computing - BA (Hons) in Creative Digital Media - BSc (Hons) in Business Information Systems - FdSC in Business Computing with Networking - Bsc (Hon) in Cyber Security

    Career Options

    Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to progress to a university degree level computing course. If you do not wish to go to higher education you will be able to pursue an Information Technology apprenticeship or job.
