This course is designed to support learners in transitioning from college into the wider community by applying the knowledge, skills and personal development they have gained through their studies.
As part of the Moving Out of Supported Learning programme, learners will develop independence, confidence and practical life skills while building a strong foundation for their future.
The course includes valuable placement opportunities within the local community, allowing learners to gain real-life experience in a range of settings. Current placement opportunities include Royal Greenwich Park, Deptford Library, Emmaus Charity Shop Lewisham and a local food bank.
These experiences help learners develop practical work-related skills, build confidence in new environments and prepare for the next stage of their journey.

Entry Requirements
To join this course, learners must be aged 16 to 24 and have an Education, Health and Care Plan.
This course is designed for learners who are ready to build on the skills and knowledge they have developed at college and begin preparing for greater independence, community engagement and future progression.
Assessment Method
Assessment on this course is continuous and based on learners progress, participation and achievement throughout the programme.
Learners are assessed through practical activities, community-based learning and workplace experiences, allowing them to demonstrate their skills and personal development over time.
Where appropriate, learners may also work towards Functional Skills English and maths qualifications to support their communication and numeracy skills.
Aims of the course
This course forms part of the Moving Out of Supported Learning programme and is designed to further develop learners independence and work-related skills.
The programme encourages learners to build self-advocacy skills, increase their confidence and develop greater independence in preparation for life beyond college.
Learners are supported to commit to and complete work experience placements, helping them gain valuable community and workplace experience while planning for their future goals.
The course also supports the development of social skills, communication and personal responsibility, all of which are important for future progression.
Progression Opportunities
On successful completion of the course, learners may progress into volunteering, supported employment, social care pathways or adult community provision, including further courses for adults.
The course provides an important stepping stone for learners preparing for greater independence, community participation and future employment opportunities.
Progression routes will depend on each learners individual goals, abilities and support needs.
Facilities
The course combines classroom-based learning with community-based activities, giving learners the opportunity to develop skills in both familiar and real-life settings.
Each group is supported by a course tutor and a classroom Learning Support Worker to provide guidance and individual support throughout the programme.
Learners also have access to specialist support services, including Speech and Language Therapists, a Safeguarding, Behaviour and Support Officer, and other professional services where needed.
The department also provides sensory and quiet spaces to support learners wellbeing and individual needs.

Supported Learning has a dedicated job coach team that supports learners in accessing employment and volunteering opportunities.
This course helps learners build the confidence, independence and transferable skills needed to progress into supported employment, volunteering roles or community-based opportunities.
The skills developed during the programme can support a wide range of future pathways based on individual goals and interests.
