The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques is a vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed beauty therapist. This qualification is based on the beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's leading professional bodies (The British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) and the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT)) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a junior beautician/beauty specialist.In parallel to the core beauty units learners will develop their communication and customer service skills their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem solving team working and research skills will also be developed. You will achieve a qualification accredited by the awarding body VTCT. You will also attain certificates to add to your CV for enrichment workshops delivered by external companies popular to the Hair and Beauty industry. You will also study functional skills or GCSE's in English and maths.

    Entry Requirements

    Four GCSEs (must include English) at grades A-D/3 and above. You will meet with staff to discuss if this course is suitable for you and you may complete an initial assessment that indicates an appropriate level of English ability.

    Assessment Method

    You will be assessed through practical assessments and by building a portfolio of work which includes evidence of practical service throughout the year. There are three areas of assessment: graded practical assessment (pass merit or distinction); exams to assess your underpinning knowledge of the skills; and a graded synoptic assessment where you will be observed carrying out a range of services from across all the mandatory units. Regular reports on progress are provided to parents/guardians of students aged under 19 years

    Progression Opportunities

    This course leads to employment in a variety of settings including commercial retail environments commercial salons/day spas and self-employed/mobile work. While the main purpose of the course of to prepare you for employment you could also progress on to a specialist qualification at Level 3 in beauty therapy holistic therapies and/or theatrical & media make up.Having successfully completed this qualification you will be eligible to become a member of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) or Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT).

    Facilities

    Practical skills are delivered by experienced industry experts using industry-recognised tools and products in our fully equipped salon. Our skilled teaching staff will utilise technology such as iPads and television viewing screens to support practical learning enabling you to view demonstrations and close-up shots as many times as you need to during your practice. You will be able to gain realistic experience working on clients at our T'ien salon on campus. There will also be opportunities to venture out on educational visits and participate in professional training and workshops offered by external companies as well as competition work.In order to attend this course and achieve your qualification you will be required to purchase uniform and a special kit. Coronavirus update
