Entry Requirements
To join this course, you should have a genuine interest in hairdressing and be willing to learn in a practical setting. You will need good communication skills and the ability to work carefully with your hands, as many tasks require hand–eye coordination. Before enrolling, you will take part in an informal discussion with a tutor to make sure the course is right for you. You should be working at around Level 1 in English and Entry Level 3 in maths, or be prepared to work towards these alongside your course if needed.
Assessment Method
Assessment on this course is practical, ongoing and designed to support your progress. Tutors will observe you carrying out basic hairdressing tasks in a salon or training environment, such as shampooing, simple styling and preparing your workstation. You will be assessed on your technique, hygiene, communication and professionalism.
You will also complete a portfolio of work to show what you have learned. This may include written tasks, worksheets and photographs of your practical work. Tutors will use questioning during sessions to check your understanding of areas such as health and safety, hair care routines and salon responsibilities. Your progress will also be measured through your professional behaviour, including attendance, punctuality, teamwork and your ability to follow instructions and respond to feedback. If you are studying English or maths as part of your programme, these will be assessed separately.
