Early Years

This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age with a focus on applied learning in the early years specifically 0–5 years. This qualification requires learners to complete a mandatory 250 hours of work experience throughout the duration of the qualification. All students are required to acquire an Enhanced DBS (which we will assist you with). This application must be submitted within the first two weeks of starting your course.

    Entry Requirements

    You will need two GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English Language and Maths or Functional Skills L1.

    Assessment Method

    The majority of assessments are internal and come in various formats including posters presentations discussions assignments workbooks observations and professional discussions. All students are required to be assessed in the early years setting by one of our Assessors who will arrange a visit.

    Aims of the course

    The course aims to provide learners with a solid foundation in the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years with an emphasis on practical application within early years settings for ages 0–5. It is designed to develop essential skills and competencies required for working effectively in early years environments. The course prepares learners for employment in early years roles or for progression to Level 3 Early Years qualifications; for those aged 16–18 there are also pathways to access further advanced training such as Level 3 T Levels.

    Progression Opportunities

    Learners can choose to enter employment in an Early Years setting directly with this qualification or they can progress to a Level 3 Early Years qualification (please note that our Level 3 T Level is only available to 16-18 year olds).

    Facilities

    Students will primarily be taught in our classrooms both through traditional lessons workshops and practical sessions in our simulated hospital ward. However when on placement they will come into contact with a variety of different settings.

    Career Options

    Upon completion career options include becoming a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner.
