Free Level 3 Qualifications for Adults
Lewisham College is offering a range of free courses for adults as part of the government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee, to help people without an A level or equivalent qualification to retrain, upskill or make a career change.
The offer is backed by £95 million from the £2.5 billion National Skills Fund, which is financing programmes that support immediate economic recovery in response to the coronavirus pandemic and help meet future skills needs.
These courses will help you gain the skills and qualifications that are needed and valued by employers, boosting your career prospects and helping you earn a better wage.

AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting (September)
This course will cover a range of complex accounting tasks, including maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns. You will learn to master a number of accounting disciplines including financial processes, final accounts preparation, spreadsheet software, indirect tax, management accounting and ethical practices for accountants.
This qualification could support progression onto AAT Level 4 courses and exciting employment opportunities within accounting across a wide range of sectors.
AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting (Bookkeeping) (June)
This AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) advanced level course is a mid-level accounting qualification, ideal for anyone who is looking to advance their existing knowledge of accounting.
This flexible course is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education, and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom.
Certificate in Understanding Autism
This course will allow you to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of autism. It looks at a range of topics such as how to adopt a positive approach to supporting individuals with autism, the current legislative framework relating to individuals with autism, how different theories have developed over time, and how to support communication and social interaction for individuals with autism.
This qualification could support progression onto appropriate qualifications, and into relevant employment within the health and social care sector.
OCN NI Certificate in Peer Support Worker
This course will provide an opportunity for learners to gain both the skills and knowledge in multiple areas of peer support such as communication and peer support supervision, mental health services and the application of peer support in recovery.
This qualification has been designed for adult practitioners working in peer support roles. Upon completion, you could progress to other qualifications and roles particularly in the health and social care sector.
NCFE CACHE Certificate in Understanding Mental Health
This course will focus on the study of mental health and mental wellbeing to support different occupational areas, incorporating a key core of knowledge and understanding. It looks at a range of topics such as mental health legislation, services and public attitudes and how these have evolved, how to support mental wellbeing through various stages of life, treatment options available and the potential consequences of mental ill health.
This qualification could support progression onto further study and relevant employment within the health and social care sector.
NCFE CACHE Certificate in Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care
This course enables learners to develop knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with dementia. It looks at a range of topics such as types of dementia and the importance of early diagnosis, person-centred approaches in dementia care, the role of communication, interaction and inclusion in dementia care and support, and the use of medication to support individuals with dementia.
Successful completion will allow learners to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of dementia and its effects, which could support progression into relevant employment within the health and social care sector.
