Drama (Performing Arts)

Are you keen and have the interest in pursuing a career in performing arts? This exciting and innovative course will help you to develop a range of creative art skills. This course provides a wide-ranging opportunity to apply and expand your skills in the performing arts. Across two years you will study acting dance and singing and make use of the skills you develop in a series of exciting large-scale public performances (at least one a term). You will work from scripts as well as devising your own performances. The course is an exciting journey fusing song dance acting and your imagination in a celebration of your potential and the diversity of talent in your company.Throughout the course you will benefit from workshops with professional actors writers directors and producers. You will also be taken on theatre trips at least once a term.The course also aims to enable you to be more employable by helping you to develop skills in communicating working collaboratively negotiating and influencing self-presentation and management adaptability and resilience self-monitoring and development.Learning will be through practical activities and project. You will be encouraged to explore experiment and to experience a wide range of performing arts skills. So whether you already know the specific creative career path you wish to follow or want to progress on to further study and Higher Education this course will help you to achieve your dream.

    Entry Requirements

    • 4 GCSE qualifications at grades A*-C or 9-4 including English Language - Level 2 vocational qualification and a Level 2 English qualification Additional information: You will have a review of your portfolio and ideally show some moderate success in the subject area.All Learners need 2 black T-shirts and 2 black jogging bottoms to take part in practical sessions notebooks pens/pencils highlighters jazz shoes hairbands set textbook (to be indicated in week 1).If you are accepted onto this course without a Grade 4 (that's the former Grade C) or above in Maths and/or English you will be given the opportunity to develop your skills in these subjects. This will be a compulsory part of your timetable.

    Assessment Method

    You will be assessed by a combination of assignments course work observation of practical workshops and a final project.

    Aims of the course

    The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts is a stimulating advanced and demanding qualification designed to allow you to explore develop and test your creativity and gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of performing arts as a collaborative activity.Through collaborative study you will take your performance skills to the next level while continuing to learn how to use your body and voice in performance engage with elements of design and technology and entertain and inform your audience. This course will develop your skills in the use of voice and vocal manipulation dance and movement theatre and mime text and dialogue mask design and use design for performance (including sets costumes and lights) and technical management. The Level 3 Extended Diploma will also provide you with the opportunity to explore specialist study and context.The course will give the opportunity to gain a deeper knowledge of the theories and principles of performing arts increase your understanding of the industry as a whole and develop the confidence and skills you'll need to succeed in real-world auditions and interviews. You will learn about professional practice standards critical and contextual awareness and the expectations of the professional world of performance and production.Finally whether your future lies on stage or screen behind the scenes or in-front of an audience or in performing or producing the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts can help set the stage for your future career journey and fully prepare you for a life in the performing arts.

    This course can lead directly to employment in a number of performance and production-based roles in a variety of performing arts environments or provide a direct route to Higher Education.
