Supported Learning

You will work towards achieving personalised individual targets. The course will help you to get used to being at college as well as developing your confidence, communication and personal and social skills. You will develop your independence through practicing travelling, using the community, shopping/cooking, independent living skills and communication. You will also do tasters in areas like catering, retail, performing arts and art and design to help you decide what you want to do next. The course also includes English and maths and work experience/enterprise and you may do some functional skills qualifications if we agree you can achieve at the next level. You will have a course tutor who will help you if you have any difficulties and who will monitor and support your progress.

You will work in a small group, (between 8 and 10 students), with a teacher and at least one support worker. Some students have 1.1 support. There is also support available in the canteen and quiet room and during lunch and breaks. If you do not travel independently you can apply for transport to college. Some students also have additional speech and language support, literacy/dyslexia support, independent travel training, emotional /behavioural support and/or job coaching.
