This program runs over two years and is equivalent to three A-Levels. It is well recognised by employers as well as higher education providers such as universities which have a preference for courses which carry UCAS points.

    Entry Requirements

    Four to five GCSEs at grade A-C/9-4 including GCSE English Language Level 2 BTEC Diploma merit grade, including GCSE English Language A-C/9-4

    Aims of the course

    Assessment is both practical and written, and includes coaching sessions, assessment of players' performance through video analysis, tasks such as producing healthy lifestyle leaflets for customers, and exams covering anatomy of the body.

    Progression Opportunities

    Past students have progressed on to:

    • University courses in sports therapy, sports studies, sports science, football studies and PE teaching
    • Apprenticeships in school sports coaching
    • Sports coaching roles
    • Sports development roles in local council
    • Gym instruction level 2 certification

    Facilities

    Classroom lessons are mainly based at our Lewisham Campus, while practical sessions are delivered at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre where we have use of a huge range of high quality facilities including sports halls, astro-turf pitches, indoor and outdoor running tracks, swimming pools, and beach volleyball, squash and tennis courts.

    Career Options

    The course gives a strong grounding in the many areas of the active leisure industry, preparing you to work in roles as diverse as coach, PE teacher, sports scientist, sports administrator or sports development officer.
