Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs (must include English) at grades A-C/4 and above.
You will meet with staff to discuss if this course is suitable for you and you may complete an initial assessment that indicates an appropriate level of English ability.
Assessment Method
You will be assessed through practical assessments and by building a portfolio of case studies in relation to massage treatments. You will produce a treatment portfolio that includes evidence of practical services carried out with proficiency to prepare you for employment in the massage industry. There are three areas of assessment:
- Practical assessment (Observation).
- Exams to assess underpinning knowledge of the skills.
- Assignments (written) and oral questioning/professional discussion.
Aims of the course
This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a massage therapist including, units covering the following: providing body massage, health and safety, anatomy and physiology and client care.
Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety, and client care. You will develop a range of technical skills enabling you to provide relaxing massage treatments using classical Swedish massage movements. You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.
Progression Opportunities
This qualification will prepare you for employment as a Swedish massage therapist. You will also be eligible to join a professional association and gain insurance as a Swedish massage therapist. There are many other massage techniques/qualifications to explore such as, stone therapy massage, Indian head massage, Thai massage, Bamboo massage, sports massage and baby massage.
Career opportunities as a Swedish massage therapist exist in a variety of contexts, including:
- Working in commercial beauty salons
- Working in a destination and day spas
- Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
Facilities
Practical skills are delivered by experienced industry experts using tools and products recognised in the industry. You will be able to gain realistic experience working on clients that book in to visit the T'ien salon on site.
