Barbering is an art form of its own and men's hair and styling requires specialist training if you are going to succeed in the industry. This course in barbering techniques is a vocational qualification that has been designed to develop a limited number of barbering skills to a high level of occupational ability and will prepare you to enter the men's hairdressing sector as a unisex hairdresser.This qualification includes the units to prepare you to work in this dynamic and rapidly expanding sector; client consultation men's hair cutting and facial hair cutting using a range of tools and techniques. The course also includes the knowledge required to enable you to advise and consult with men on the type of haircut and facial hair shaping the way they want but just as importantly what is suitable for them. You will achieve a qualification accredited by the awarding body VTCT.

    Entry Requirements

    This course is open to applicants age 19+.Entry onto this qualification can be via previous achievement of a level 2 qualification in women's hairdressing or a successful skills test and interview. You will meet with staff to discuss if this course is suitable for you and you will complete a free writing task that indicates an appropriate level of English ability.

    Assessment Method

    You will be assessed through practical assessments and 4 online exams throughout the course.

    Aims of the course

    This course will prepare you to enter the men's hairdressing sector as a unisex hairdresser or if you are already working in the hair or barbering industry this course will provide you will a formal recognised qualification.

    Progression Opportunities

    This qualification will prepare you for employment as in men's hairdressing/barbering and could widen your career opportunities if you are already working in women's or unisex hairdressing. This qualification could also lead to you undertaking specialist qualifications at level 3 relating to barbering and/or level 2 diplomas in women's or unisex hairdressing.

    Facilities

    Practical skills are delivered by experienced industry experts using tools and products recognised in the industry. Our skilled staff will utilise technology such as ipads and television viewing screens to support practical learning ensuring that you can view demonstrations and close up shots as many times as you need to during your practice. You will be able to gain realistic experience working on clients that book in to visit the T'ien salon on-site.
