Construction and Engineering

The BTEC Level 1 course is an essential starting point for anyone interested in Engineering. It will develop the core skills and knowledge that will enable progression to further learning at a higher level and work towards a career in the world of Engineering. The Diploma offers you the opportunity to develop a range of skills in the engineering sector and supports progression to further study. On successful completion you will receive a Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Engineering.

    Entry Requirements

    3 GCSEs D-G / 3-1 or relevant industry experience.

    Assessment Method

    All units are internally assessed giving you the opportunity to demonstrate skills developed in applied scenarios. The program uses a range of assessment styles suited to skills including practical assignment and project work. All units are graded to encourage skills development and performance using a grading scale of Distinction Merit Pass and Unclassified.

    Aims of the course

    The Pearson BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Engineering is designed around practical skills and tasks that place an emphasis on learners demonstrating what they can do rather than what they know in theory. The qualification gives you the opportunity to acquire and develop generic transferable and sector-specific skills in order to complete tasks and demonstrate a level of achievement that enables you to progress to further learning.

    Progression Opportunities

    The Introductory Diploma in Engineering is primarily for those who want to continue their education and develop their skills for progression to further learning and ultimately to employment. This qualification prepares you for further learning at a higher level in Engineering. After successful completion you can progress to the L2 Diploma in Engineering.


    You will have the opportunity to utilise a range of classroom IT room and practical workshops throughout the program.

    Career Options

    The Level 1 in Engineering ensures you have the knowledge and hand skills to progress into skilled employment higher level technical training or an Apprenticeship.
