Construction and Engineering

This qualification is intended for post 16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately employment. It aims to further develop learners knowledge through coherent study of the Engineering sector. If successful on the course you will be awarded the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering.

    Entry Requirements

    4 GCSEs (A*-C/9-4) including maths English and science or a relevant Level 2 Diploma. Learners should also have an interest in engineering and technology.

    Assessment Method

    The Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma has mandatory and optional specialist units. Mandatory units have a combination of internal and external assessments all optional units are internally assessed.You will complete a range of projects assignments presentations and practical activities. These will be assessed as you progress through the course.

    Aims of the course

    This course aims to provide opportunities for you to develop some of the skills knowledge and understanding which you will need to move towards a career in Engineering or higher qualification.

    Progression Opportunities

    Following the completion of the Diploma learners may be able to progress to degree or higher-level courses at university. This qualification is intended to carry a range of UCAS points for Pass Merit and Distinction and is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to meeting admission requirements for many courses.This course also opens up a host of career opportunities across a wide range of engineering aspects including: design engineer aerospace engineer manufacturer eco and environmental planning transport engineer and many more.


    Learners will be involved in classroom based learning completing projects and learning using specialist equipment in our workshops using computer software (including simulation) and practical sessions. As part of the course learners will visit engineering companies to find out more about real life engineering in a range of settings. There may also be opportunities to develop employability skills through a range of activities and projects.

    Career Options

    The course also provides an excellent basis for entry into a wide range of jobs and Apprenticeships in the Engineering sector. Typical employment opportunities may include working as a technician a mechanical maintenance or manufacturing engineer or a technical sales representative.
