Guidance notes to help you

The job description sets out the duties and responsibilities of the job advertised and the person specification sets out the essential and desirable skills, abilities and knowledge required to do the job. You will be shortlisted if you have demonstrated in your supporting statement that you meet the essential requirements of the job.

Your supporting statement should contain specific examples from your previous work history that illustrate how you meet these requirements. Your statement should be positive and clearly set out under sub headings.

You can include examples of the skills, abilities and knowledge you have acquired outside traditional employment, such as through voluntary work.

Please note

Eligibility to work in the UK

The College will follow up on your eligibility to work in the UK and will not be able to progress an appointment if there is a false declaration of eligibility.  [The declaration field represents a digital signature that confirms that everything you have stated on your form is true and can be substantiated.]

References

Please give the details of two referees from your present, or most recent employment, or if you have worked in a voluntary capacity, from your manager in that organisation.

Disclosure of criminal convictions

All appointments at the College are subject to a criminal record check with the Criminal Records Bureau before the appointment is confirmed.  So please tell us about any criminal convictions you may have, even if this is now considered as spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

Equal opportunities

Lewisham College is an equal opportunities employer.  Please take the time to complete the short monitoring form - even though this will have no connection at all with whether or not you are shortlisted or employed by the College.  We need this data in order to shape policies and strategies and maintain a truly diverse workforce profile.

And finally

Please be aware that the declaration field represents a digital signature that confirms that everything you have stated on the form is true and can be substantiated.

We ask you to ensure that any application you make reaches us by the closing date.  We will carefully consider all applications at the shortlisting stage.  We will contact you within four weeks of the closing date, if your application has been successful.  Please note that if you have not been contacted within four weeks, your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion.

If you are not shortlisted this time, we would like to thank you sincerely for your time and for the interest you have shown in working for Lewisham College.  We wish you every success in your future career.
