Kayann Davis - Access to Higher Education (Education Studies) OCNLR
When I first came to Lewisham College, I liked it
straight away, it was warm and welcoming, especially as someone
coming from another country. The first course I took was Word
Processing in 1998. I received a distinction for that course and it
really boosted my confidence.
I won the LEA Award For Professionalism last year when I
was studying the Teaching Assistant NVQ. After completing that
course I progressed on to the next level, Access to Higher
Education. Now I've applied to go to university to study teacher
training. I feel like I'm progressing in steps, I can see where my
grades are taking me - so Lewisham College has already helped me
achieve my goals.
I want to be a role model for people who think they can't do it.
I never used to think I'd be studying to go on to university; I'll
be the first person in my family to do it. I want to be an
encouragement to others.
Even though I'm an older student, I feel like I fit in. I feel
part of Lewisham College, I feel safe and secure here I can really
focus on my studies. If I had to study here for the next ten years
I would.
