What will I study?
Want to make a TV programme? Want to edit a film? Are you
interested in camerawork, sound recording, lighting, editing, TV
presenting, journalism? Then this is the course for you.
This is a course in making and studying media. All
coursework is through practical projects; it is assessed through
doing the work and writing it up.
The First Year covers core units such as Understanding the TV
Industry, Research Techniques and Production Management, combining
them with practical projects like making a TV commercial, a short
documentary and an animation.
The Second Year delivers units such as Professional Skills and
contains work experience. There is also scope for more personal
project work and a higher level of skill in cinematography,
editing, sound and lighting. You may be asked to work with drama
and music students on projects, or to work within the wider
community eg on a charity ad or corporate video for a client.
Media Studies work will include studying films and TV programmes
