Is this course for me?

This course suits those who are specifically interested in progressing to study creative Fashion courses at degree level.  The focus is on creative skills and requires a high level of commitment to the whole design process and an open mind to experimentation.  You should have an excellent work ethic and enjoy visualisation, ideas and concepts, research, development and contextualisation.

What will I study?

The course is divided into three parts: the exploratory stage is delivered by practical workshops and short intense projects, the pathway stage explores techniques in more depth and the confirmatory stage examines a major project.

Compulsory Subjects

There are the following compulsory units which are approached through the discipline of Fashion:
Stage 1 - Exploratory - 40 mandatory credits
Unit 1 Researching, Recording and Responding in Art and Design
Unit 2 Media Experimentation in Art and Design
Stage 2 - Pathway - 10 mandatory credits
Unit 3 Preparation and Progression in Art and Design
Stage 2 - Pathway - minimum 10, maximum 30 optional credits
Unit 4 Information and Interpretation in Art and Design
Unit 5 Personal Experimental Studies in Art and Design
Unit 6 Extended Media Development in Art and Design
Unit 10 Final Major Project in Art and Design

 

What are the entry requirements?

You will need either five GCSEs, one A level and three GCSEs, a BTEC National Award or a Certificate in Art, Design or Fashion. However, entry requirements may be flexible if you can demonstrate a high standard of experience and interest in Fashion. You should also enjoy problem solving, have a desire to learn and will be asked to present a portfolio of creative work at the interview.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is assignment based in term 1 and 2.  You will be expected to submit sketchbooks, design sheets, a technical file, research and development work, final outcomes and project work as specified on each brief.  The last term is delivered at Level 4 and you most produce a final major project (FMP) which is assessed by an external examiner.

What can I do next?

This course is designed to help you develop a conceptual and creative skill set suitable for Degree level study.  You will be given progression advice including expert help with producing a suitable portfolio of work.
