Is this course for me?
This qualification is aimed at those working or who are seeking
to start a career in food preparation and cooking. It can be taken
in the RWE areas of the College or the workplace.
What will I study?
It covers a range of methods of preparing food from preparing
ingredients through to cooking and presentation of dishes.
Subjects:
- Cleaning
- Handle and maintaining knives
- Hygiene
- Maintain a safe and secure environment
- Team work
These are optional subjects:
- Prepare and bake food
- Prepare and fry food
- Prepare and grill food
- Prepare fruit
- Prepare hot/cold sandwiches and bread products
- Prepare vegetables
- Prepare, boil, poach and steam food
- Prepare, cook and assemble food for service
What can I do next?
This course can lead to a full Level 2 Certificate which
will enable progression on to Level 3 courses in Professional
Cookery.
What are the entry requirements?
You will need to come to college for an interview and short
test. You will also have to have a resonable understanding of Maths
and English and have achieved a level 1 certificate in food
preparation.
What will it cost?
If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances,
you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out
when you apply.
