Is this course for me?

This course supports the practice and development of children in your care under the age of eight years.

You will also have the opportunity to gain First Aid Certificates.

What will I study?

This course covers the all round care and development of children under the age of 16 years.

Subjects:

  • Develop and promote positive relationships
  • Develop and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for children
  • Promote children's development
  • Reflect on and develop practice
  • Protect and promote children's rights

What can I do next?

This can lead to a foundation degree, NVQ Level 4 or teaching and/or nursing awards in care and education. Or to university to study childcare or education.

This can lead to employment in:

  • Children Centre Management,
  • Family Centres
  • Qualified Childcare
  • and Sure Start work

What are the entry requirements?

You will need to be working for at least three days a week with children under the age of eight. An assessment, interview and two references are also required.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through assignments, work products and practical work. Students also meet regularly with tutors to help plan studies and discuss progress.

What will it cost?

If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances, you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out when you apply.
