Is this course for me?

This course gives you a general understanding of the care, learning and development needs of children and will develop your childcare practice.

What will I study?

You will develop your communication, numeracy and IT skills, and have the opportunity to gain a first aid qualification to support your personal and professional development.

Subject areas covered include the physical care and development of the child, emotional and social development and working with babies. A work placement is an essential part of this course.

What can I do next?

This can lead to the Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education or Children's Care Learning and Development. This qualification leads to a wide range of employment opportunities in childcare.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need to have three GCSEs at grade D or above and a Caring for Children Foundation Award at merit level. An interview, assessment and two references are also required and a Criminal Records Bureau check must be completed.

What will it cost?

If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances, you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out when you apply.
