Lewisham College has all the facilities you'll need to succeed

We have a range of facilities to support and engage students.  These include specialist rooms for early years and childcare and which provide a range of work-based equipment and resources to support learning and skills development.

To further support learning, work placements and employer-related activities is an essential part of all our courses, to help develop work specific skills and practices.  This has enabled many of our students to secure full-time employment on completion of their courses, and help support university applications.

What can I do next?

Early Years students have gone on to some of London's leading universities such as King's College, Nightingale Institute, Goldsmiths and Southbank to study and professionally train in a range of courses.

Many of our former Childcare students are now Childcare Officers and Managers in private and local authority nurseries, and a growing number are progressing onto our highly successful Foundation Degree, and 'topping-up' to obtain degrees in Early Years, Childhood Studies and Primary Education.

Candice James - Foundation Degree in Early Years

Candice JamesI did a Diploma in Nursery Nursing in 2001. Since then, I'd worked in a variety of different places, nurseries and pre schools and more recently I was working in a child care centre in a family support role.

I'd always wanted to do a degree but had never had the formal qualifications to do so. My manager actually recommended doing a Foundation Degree - she'd just done one.

I applied for a Foundation Degree because it gave me access to a full degree.
University had always been quite a daunting prospect for me - I never thought I'd get there.

I found studying in the college environment much more accessible, it was more relaxed and informal.

I'm now the manager of a pre school, which is definitely the result of doing the course. Doing the Foundation Degree has really built my confidence, and I have a
vision now of what I expect.

I love my new job, and I take so much of what I've learned into my role.

Doing the Foundation Degree at Lewisham College has opened my employment options so much wider - and it's given me the confidence to pursue them. I do feel like I can achieve anything now. I feel proud, actually.

I'm currently doing a one year top up at Greenwich University, which will give me a
BA Honours degree. I'm the first person in my family to get this far, it feels good
that I've reached university.
