Is this course for me?
This course is for those who want to get back into the habit of
academic study, or for people who wish to access a university
course, who need to gain a qualification to move on in
employment or who want to be able to support their family
through school exams.
What will I study?
You will look at the way English is used in books, articles,
adverts and speech whilst studying how to write English for
different audiences. You will also develop your speaking skills.
The course consists of an examination and coursework elements.
Successful completion leads to a nationally recognised
qualification at the end of the first year.

- Different cultures, analysis and argument
- Literary heritage and imaginative writing
- Non-fiction, media and information
- Speaking and listening
What can I do next?
This can lead to to progression opportunities at work or in
study.
What are the entry requirements?
You will need to complete a short assessment to ensure your
suitability for the course. This is not a course for people wishing
to improve their English in general.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is by 2 examination and coursework.
What will it cost?
If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances,
you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out
when you apply.
