Is this course for me?

This course suits those interested in a career in science and technology, for example: laboratory technician.

What will I study?

This course will cover the English, literacy, numeracy and science study skills necessary to succeed in the certificate in applied science at level 1 and to work in a science or technology setting.  You will study:

English grammar, speaking, listening, reading and writing, maths, IT, biology, chemistry and physics.

There are the following compulsory subjects:

  • Level 1 adult literacy
  • Level 1 adult numeracy
  • Applied Science

What can I do next?

You can progress to level 2 qualifications in Science and seek work in science and technology settings.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need to have successfully completed ESOL or Literacy, plus numeracy at Entry 3.  In addition, you will have a short interview and literacy/numeracy assessment before being accepted.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is by examination and portfolio development.

What will it cost?

If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances, you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out when you apply.
