Is this course for me?
This course involves attending College for two days per week. It
will help you develop the knowledge and skills needed to
manufacture products by hand and machine.
What will I study?
You will learn aspects of Oxygen and Acetylene, welding and
cutting, MIG/MAGS and TIG/TAGS, and Electric Arc Welding.
It is a highly practical course and much of the learning takes
place in our modern workshops, with additional training in the
drawing office and classroom.
What are the entry requirements?
You will need to attend an interview at the College and take an
initial assessment test, assistance will be provided if required.
You should have a good standard of literacy and numeracy.
Additional help with maths and English is provided if required.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is through a number of practical pieces of work plus
a portfolio of written evidence. Students have regular meetings
with a personal tutor to discuss progress and to help plan
studies.
What can I do next?
This can lead to a Modern Apprenticeship, a BTEC First Diploma
in Engineering or employment opportunities.
What will it cost?
If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances,
you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out
when you apply.
