Is this course for me?

This course consists of practical tasks and theory. You will study for 2-3 days per week and subjects studied include health and safety, communication, construction technology, basic joints, maintenance and use of hand tools, and preparation and use of portable power tools.

What will I study?

This course consists of practical tasks with theoretical study. You will study for two to three days a week.

What can I do next?

This can lead to a Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery and/or NVQ qualifications after employment. The course can lead to opportunities in: self-employment, construction companies and local authority maintenance teams.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need to have a short interview and initial assessment to determine if this course is suitable for you.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is by an externally set theoretical knowledge test, taken at the college and retaken if necessary. Students also meet regularly with tutors to help plan studies and to discuss progress. There will be a final online theory exam and an internally marked practical exam.

What will it cost?

If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances, you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out when you apply.
