Is this course for me?
This short evening course is for those that need basic home or
work PC repair & upgrade or to become familiar with hardware
and software. This practical "hands-on" course will teach you the
essentials of assembling a PC from scratch and troubleshooting the
various types of PC hardware. With the modern world's
emphasis on technological solutions, skills in building and
maintaining computer equipment are in high demand.
What will I study?
• Components of a microcomputer
• Disassembling and assembling a complete PC system
safely
• Installing PC components
• Configuring hardware and software
• Upgrading PCs
• Installing software
• Troubleshooting strategy for PCs
The course will be delivered using our Cisco IT Essential online
material and attendance at weekly practical sessions.
You will receive a College certificate. However, this course
prepares you for the C&G 7540 Unit Certification in ICT Systems
Support and Cisco IT Essential I. At the end of the course,
you will have the chance to gain these qualifications.
What are the entry requirements?
No previous computer hardware knowledge or formal qualification
is required. However, you should be able to use a word processor
and browse the Internet.
What can I do next?
Success on this course will increase your chances of progression
onto other computing and information technology courses at Lewisham
College. Alternatively, you may decide to utilise your skills and
embark on a career in the fast moving field in computing. For

What will it cost?
If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances,
you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out
