Gloria Noel - Chartered Institute of Housing Diploma in Housing Studies, Level 4
I've
been studying at Lewisham College since 2007. I come to College
once a week and I also work full time. I'm a Principal Team Leader
in a Retirement Housing organisation and I manage a team of 17
people.
I just wanted to better myself and better my understanding of
the housing sector.
The course has helped me develop myself a lot - I'm now able to
communicate more effectively which has helped me greatly since I
work in management. I'd like to go on and do a degree in
Housing.
The biggest challenge in being an adult learner is being able to
juggle a home life and family and the things that come with being a
responsible adult. It's a great learning experience. There's lots
more opportunities now for adult learning - you don't have to do a
Housing course.
If anyone's looking to do a course, I'd tell them to give it a
go. You won't know if you can manage it until you try it, and
there's a good support network at College. You'll surprise
yourself, I did. I've really gone for it.
What can I do next?
Many housing students have been promoted in the workplace and a
few have progressed to higher levels of study including Middlesex
University and London South Bank University where the training they
received at Lewisham College has giving them a good base on which
to progress.
