We run a variety of courses in Housing and Housing Maintenance from level 2 to level 4. Each course is highly practical and based on current work experience, either paid or unpaid.  Completion of the course of your choice can lead to promotion or a change of job with better pay.  Many students go on to further study at the college or study for The Charted Institute of Housing (CIH) Professional Qualification at university or by distance learning.

Gloria Noel - Chartered Institute of Housing Diploma in Housing Studies, Level 4

150x150GloriaI've been studying at Lewisham College since 2007. I come to College once a week and I also work full time. I'm a Principal Team Leader in a Retirement Housing organisation and I manage a team of 17 people.

I just wanted to better myself and better my understanding of the housing sector.
The course has helped me develop myself a lot - I'm now able to communicate more effectively which has helped me greatly since I work in management. I'd like to go on and do a degree in Housing.

The biggest challenge in being an adult learner is being able to juggle a home life and family and the things that come with being a responsible adult. It's a great learning experience. There's lots more opportunities now for adult learning - you don't have to do a Housing course.

If anyone's looking to do a course, I'd tell them to give it a go. You won't know if you can manage it until you try it, and there's a good support network at College. You'll surprise yourself, I did. I've really gone for it.

What can I do next?

Many housing students have been promoted in the workplace and a few have progressed to higher levels of study including Middlesex University and London South Bank University where the training they received at Lewisham College has giving them a good base on which to progress.
