Lauren Murray - Business Administration Apprentice
I'd always known I wanted to come to Lewisham
College. I came here because I'd heard it was a good college, and
it was local. It's a really nice environment to study in.
I want to work in an office, so I thought getting an NVQ would
make it easier to get an office job in the future.
Through the course we get to do work experience placements.
Being able to actually go and experience doing the job, and not
just sitting in a classroom all the time is great, and
really good for my CV.
My work experience placement has been in Lewisham College's
Marketing and Communications department. It's been really
worthwhile.
In the future I'd like to perhaps go into fashion
administration, or perhaps do admin for the police force or
MI5.
The Business Bureau
The Business Bureau is a working office providing administrative
services and a meet and greet service to the College. It
provides a real work environment for students on Foundation and
Level 1 administration courses who are trained in telephone and
reception skills and on a range of office equipment. Working
in the Business Bureau will give you the opportunity of finding out
what it is like to work in a real office and build your confidence
ready to progress into external work placements on Level 2
programmes or employment.
What can I do next?
Students on Administration courses have progressed to a higher
level course or into work. Our work placement scheme at level
2 gives students the opportunity to work for three days per week in
an office for six months giving them excellent experience to add to
their CV. Many of our students progress into employment at
the end of a level 2 programme, sometimes with their placement
employer.
Students on a Customer Service course will benefit from our work
placement scheme also giving them excellent experience to add to
their CV. This is a new programme from which students are
expected to progress into employment in customer service
roles such as receptionist or customer service assistant in a
number of different industries.
Many students who have done Bookkeeping Level 1 and 2 and
Computerised Accounts Level 1 and 2 progress on to Association of
Accounting Technician's (AAT) intermediate stage. Other
students who have their own business use their learning and skills
to do their own accounts.
Students on a Customer Service course will benefit from our work
placement scheme also giving them excellent experience to add to
their CV. This is a new programme from which students are
expected to progress into employment in a range of customer
service roles such as receptionist or customer service
assistant in a number of different industries or into
retail.
