Is this course for me?
This course is designed for young people who want to undertake
an apprenticeship in Beauty. You must be employed in the Beauty
industry. The course involves attendance at College one day a week
and four days with an employer. Students must be employed before
they start the academic year.
What will I study?
This course covers : Electrical face and body treatments, body
massage and related subjects, aromatherapy with pre-blended oils,
epilation, retailing and promotional activities and health &
safety.
Subjects:
- Contribute to the financial effectiveness of the business
- Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health &
safety
- Epilate the hair follicle using diathermy, galvanic and blend
techniques
- Improve body condition using electro-therapy
- Improve face and skin condition using electro-therapy
- Promote additional products or services to clients
- Provide head and body massage treatments
What can I do next?
This can lead to progression into employment in a range of hair
salons, spas, hotels and other hairdressing outlets.

What are the entry requirements?
You will need to have completed a Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 2 or
equivalent beauty qualification. You will be invited to an
interview and assessment test at the College. It is essential that
you have an enquiring mind, enthusiasm, can work independently and
a motivation to work with the public. Evidence of an excellent
record of attendance, punctuality and commitment from your school
or college will also be required.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is by a combination of observation of practical work
and written assessments, projects and assignments. You will have
regular meetings with your personal tutor to discuss your progress
and to help plan your studies. Additional support, help and
guidance is also available from the guidance team or from our Study
Buddies (a network of students offering help to fellow
students).
What will it cost?
If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances,
you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out
when you apply.
