Welding students make sparks

Last month, students from Level 2 Welding competed to show off
their skills for some handy prizes. Their judge was Electraweld
director Tony Westcott, who arrived with the latest welding gloves
and masks on offer. Level 1 students divided into teams and used
their newly-gained abilities in electric arc welding to compete.
Sparks were flying as students put on their masks to use their
electric arc welders, competing to make the best lap and T-joints
for their team.

Tony was impressed by their skills, even more so considering the
students had only been practicing electric arc welding for a couple
weeks, working with tutors Steve Granville and Colin Edwards. "They
have really come in and given it a go, and they've done some
tremendous work. Even experienced welders would be proud of the
work they've done," Tony said.
The winning team was Shanon Sullivan, Stephen Dell, and Perry
Rockhill, who won the latest hi-tech welding gloves while Santiago
Veres-Eiroa won first prize for his corner joint and took home a
brand new welding mask.
