Unicorn exists for Lewisham College graduate

Ibrahim Shote, who recently graduated with a triple distinction
in the BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts, won the inaugural
Joanna David Award from Unicorn, the national children's theatre.
Ibrahim was presented with his award from the Duchess of Cornwall,
Camilla, patron of Unicorn, and will be embarking on a ten-week
placement in May. "It feels great and I'm very happy," Ibrahim
said. "I think I'm very dedicated to theatre - it's my passion. I
know it's what I want to do, and I especially want to be a
director."
Ibrahim is definitely keen to learn. "I know I'm young and I
only left Lewisham College last year. When I went to the interview,
I told them that I'm quite fresh and interested in working in
different genres, from musicals to drama," he said.
Ibrahim grew up in south-east London and came to Lewisham
College to pursue his passion. "I really enjoyed Lewisham College.
All of the tutors were very supportive and would go out of their
way to help you. Karla (Ptacek) was the best - she's amazing. She
would talk me through everything and she would help me develop my
skills."
Ibrahim's also excelled outside the College. He was a co-founder
of Southwark Playhouse's Young Company, and has worked on projects
at the Young Vic and the National Theatre Studio. He's currently
acting in a new play at Southwark Playhouse called The
Arsonists, and as part of his placement at Unicorn, he will
assist a guest director on a production during the upcoming Unicorn
season.
