Lewisham College Named Young Enterprise Centre of
Excellence

Lewisham College has been recognised as a Young Enterprise
Centre of Excellence at a national launch held at Guildhall, City
of London this month.
College principals and head teachers from across London were
each presented with a plaque acknowledging their establishment's
outstanding commitment to the promotion of enterprise and
entrepreneurship education.
The plaque recognises the College's Posyganza Young Enterprise
project, where students with learning difficulties and disabilities
run a fresh flower business.
John May, Chief Executive of Young Enterprise said: "A strong
partnership with education is essential to Young Enterprise's work.
We are delighted to recognise and thank these inspirational schools
and colleges for their dedication and commitment to bringing
enterprise alive for their young people and helping to inspire the
next generation with the skills and attitudes to succeed."
John Hayes, Minister of State for Further Education, Skills and
Lifelong Learning endorsed the event saying: "I believe Young
Enterprise to be an excellent example of education and business
working together at all levels to provide young people with the
skills and expertise they will need to succeed as the entrepreneurs
and enterprising employees of the future"
Principal of Lewisham College Maxine Room collected the plaque
on behalf of Posyganza. She said: "Posyganza has been a thriving
business in the College for many years now and we're delighted with
this recognition from Young Enterprise; it's a real validation of
all of the hard work put in by students and staff alike. As well as
being a profitable, much loved and highly regarded business,
Posyganza is also a vehicle for delivering valuable work and life
skills to our learners. Long may it continue."
Posyganza tutor Jenny Wilson added: "The College has worked
closely with Young Enterprise for 16 years and it continues to open
doors for us in quite unexpected ways. Posyganza has become a
valuable example of Team Programme and is often used as a model of
good practice to other colleges looking to start up the
programme."
