Lewisham College Celebrates LGBT History Month

Lewisham College has been celebrating LGBT History month by
holding a college wide week of activities to promote the College's
commitment to equality and diversity.
Film screenings, quizzes, raffles, exhibitions and displays have
been held at both campuses, with members of Stonewall Football Club
giving a talk at the College's Deptford site.
Staff and students from the College's own Football Academy also
took on one of the biggest LGB-friendly teams in the country, the
London Titans, in a friendly match where the staff team emerged
victorious.
Students and staff have also been encouraged to pledge their
commitment to supporting sexual orientation equality by making
rainbow print handprints.
One Lewisham College Bricklaying student said: "LGBT History
month definitely opened up people's minds. It takes the
stereotypical views of things away and people can learn about LGBT
issues for themselves."
Dith Banbury, Assistant Principal for Learner and Community
Development added: "Our LGBT History Month celebrations have been a
vibrant, visible celebration of our commitment to equality and
diversity at Lewisham College.
"Sexual orientation equality is a key strand within the
College's overarching Single Equality Scheme, which aims to ensure
that the College continues to be a welcoming, safe and inclusive
environment for everyone.
"We're delighted with the open and eager response we've received
from staff and students who have participated in a whole range of
activities that have been happening throughout the week."
