25 May 2011

IDAHO

IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia) was marked on Tuesday May 17th by Lewisham Council, Stonewall and Lewisham College.

An event was held at Lewisham Civic Centre at which the Mayor of Lewisham, Sir Steve Bullock, thanked Lewisham Council and its partners, including Lewisham College, for the impressive work being done across the borough to support and promote LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) equality.

A presentation and discussion around ways to help stop homophobic bullying in schools, colleges and the workplace was led by the LGBT charity, Stonewall's, Senior Education Officer, Lucy Warwick.

Dith Banbury, Champion of the Sexual Orientation Equality Strand at Lewisham College said, "we are delighted to have celebrated IDAHO with our partners and to be working with Stonewall to address homophobic bullying at College. It is essential that all learners and staff are able to be themselves and feel welcome and safe at College."
