Dance Department Goes On Tour

Lewisham College Dance students are hitting the road this March,
taking performances into local schools to inspire more young people
to get into dance.
The College's Touring Company, made up of final year Dance
students, will be performing a mixture of professionally
choreographed and student choreographed original pieces across
London and the South East.
The Dance department will be heading out between Tuesday 8 March
- Friday 11 March 2011, visiting Plumstead Manor School in
Greenwich, NewVIc College in Newham, Darrick Wood School in
Bromley, Harris Academy in Peckham and City and Islington College
with a special, final performance at Trinity Laban on Tuesday 22
March for friends and family.
Students have been working with top dance professionals,
including Lyndsey McConville, Geir Hytten, Sarah Dowling, Stuart
Waters to produce brand new original work to take out on tour.
Audiences can expect an exciting mixture of physical theatre,
street dance with a contemporary edge and a big musical theatre
style finale.
Lewisham College Dance tutor Rebecca Henry-Litteck said: "Being
a part of Touring Company gives our students real-life work
experience. They're expanding their knowledge and learning about
producing and developing original works and then performing them up
to twice a day: it's very physically demanding.
"All credit to the students, they've been very innovative and
have done an amazing job; they're all growing as performers and
professionals. It's really exciting to be taking their work out on
tour."
Lewisham College Dance student Ed Hunter described the chance to
go out on tour as a "great opportunity and experience," adding: "it
has been incredibly hard work, but it really pays off!"
Fellow Dance student Shannon Catherine Leahy agreed, adding:
"Touring Company gives us a real taste of the future career and
lifestyle we could be going into - we can't wait to go out on
tour!"
