Lewisham College Sport

There are lots of opportunities to get involved with sports

A variety of opportunities are available for all students studying at Lewisham College. Activities include:

  • 5 aside Football
  • Boys & Girls Basketball
  • Netball
  • Badminton
  • Table Tennis
  • Boxing
  • Cheerleading
  • Street dance
  • Kwick Cricket
  • Short Tennis 
  • Tailored sport activities for students with a disability

On site Facilities

  • Sports Hall
  • Changing Rooms
  • Inclusive Gym (strength and cardio)
  • Outdoor Court

There are also designated 'women's only' fitness usage in the gym and sports provision. Further facilities in close proximity are provided at local schools and council sites.

Competitions

Lewisham College Football Academy currently plays in the Football Conference Youth Alliance. Both Lewisham College Netball & Basketball teams are represented in the Lewisham Central Venue U19 League.

Students additionally have the opportunity to participate in inter college table tennis, badminton, football, cheerleading and street dance tournaments and showcases.
Other competition throughout the year includes the Cricket Inner London Youth Cup, Athletics Cross Country Championships and the London Mini Marathon.

Coach Education, Opportunities & Volunteering

All students will be given the opportunity to gain an extra qualification, whilst taking part in sport activities at Lewisham College.  The level 2 award in Community Sports Leadership is a nationally recognised qualification that enables successful candidates to lead groups of people in sport/activity under indirect supervision.

The ABA Boxing Awards (preliminary/standard/bronze) is a great opportunity for students to learn technique acquisition, developing and understanding of the components of skill learning and fitness development. Lewisham Leadership Academy is designed to provide high quality support and development for young leaders and volunteers aged 14-19 that are committed to actively volunteering within their school and/ or community settings. This includes:

  • The opportunity to undertake appropriate placements and volunteer experiences.
  • The opportunity to gain sport specific coaching qualifications
  • Mentoring support
  • Opportunity to be rewarded for outstanding contributions

London 2012

Lewisham College is part of the 'Get Set' Network. Get Set is the official London 2012 education programme for schools, college and local authority education providers across the UK.

The Get Set network is a special community of schools and colleges which:

  • Demonstrate  a commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic Values: respect, friendship, equality, excellence, inspiration, courage and determination
  • Using the London 2012 Games to inspire learners of all ages and abilities to get involved in Values-based projects and activities.

Community Links

Lewisham College is part of Lewisham School Sport Partnership. The Sports Partnership is formed of 6 Secondary Schools, 32 Primary Schools, 3 Special Schools and 1 College. The school sports partnership works with National Governing Bodies, Regional Sports Partnerships and local sports organisations to provide all students from primary to further education the opportunity to participate in sport, in a variety of capacities.
